Hytale guide

Join a Hytale dedicated server

Add a Hytale dedicated server by its address and port, fix "Server authentication unavailable" and version errors, and become an operator.

Updated

You join a Hytale dedicated server by its address: an IP address or a host name, and the port after a colon, such as 203.0.113.24:5520. The server's owner can give it to you.

1. Add the server

  1. Start Hytale and open Servers.
  2. Choose Add Server.
  3. Give it any name, and enter the address with its port. Without a port, the game uses 5520.
  4. Save it, then select it and join.

If the server has a password, the game asks for it as you join.

2. If you can't join

  • Server authentication unavailable: the server is not signed in to Hytale. Its owner signs it in from the server console with /auth login device.
  • A different version: you and the server must run the same release. Update your game in the launcher, or ask the owner to update the server.
  • No answer at all: check the address and port, and that the server is running. On a self-hosted server, UDP 5520 must be forwarded to it; the server uses no TCP port.
  • Not on the whitelist: the owner adds you with /whitelist add and your username.

3. Becoming an operator

Operators can run admin commands in the game. The owner makes you one from the server console with /op add and your username; it is kept in the server's permissions.json.

On HostForge

Where to find the address

On HostForge, the server page shows the address and password to share, with a copy button. Every HostForge server is signed in to Hytale when it starts, and stays on the current release. The owner runs /op add and /whitelist add in the Console tab. To set up your own, see setting up a Hytale dedicated server.
