Move your Palworld world to a dedicated server

Find your Palworld co-op or server world, copy it to a dedicated server, set DedicatedServerName, drop WorldOption.sav and handle the host character.

Updated

A Palworld world is one folder, named by a 32-character ID, holding Level.sav, LevelMeta.sav and a Players folder with a save for each character. Copy that folder to the server and point the server at it.

1. Find your world

  • A co-op world on Windows (Steam): %LOCALAPPDATA%\Pal\Saved\SaveGames\<your Steam ID>\<world ID>
  • A dedicated server: Pal/Saved/SaveGames/0/<world ID> in the server folder.

With several worlds there, the newest folder is usually the one you played last. Each world folder has a backup folder with the game's own snapshots, which you can leave behind. This guide covers the Steam version; the Xbox app keeps saves in a different format.

2. Copy it to the server

  1. Stop the server, and copy its current world somewhere safe.
  2. Copy your world folder into Pal/Saved/SaveGames/0/ on the server.
  3. In Pal/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/GameUserSettings.ini (WindowsServer on Windows), set DedicatedServerName= to the world folder's name.
  4. Start the server.

3. Remove WorldOption.sav

A co-op world carries WorldOption.sav, the world settings you picked in the game. A dedicated server uses it instead of PalWorldSettings.ini while it's there, so delete it from the world folder to run on the server's settings. Delete LocalData.sav too; it's the host's own map and settings.

4. The co-op host's character

In a co-op world the host's character is saved as Players/00000000000000000000000000000001.sav, a placeholder rather than the host's own player ID. A dedicated server doesn't match it to the host, so the host is asked to make a new character, while everyone else keeps theirs. Community tools can rewrite the host's save to their real player ID before the move; do that on a copy.

If the server starts a new world

  • DedicatedServerName doesn't match the folder name exactly.
  • The folder is one level too deep or too shallow: Level.sav must sit directly inside SaveGames/0/<world ID>/.
  • To go back, stop the server and copy back the world you saved in step 1.
On HostForge

Upload it as a ZIP

Zip your world folder, stop your server and use Backups › Upload save. A .tar.gz backup from another host works too. HostForge finds the folder with Level.sav, leaves out the game's backups, WorldOption.sav and LocalData.sav, and sets DedicatedServerName for you. A banlist.txt in the archive replaces the server's. One world per ZIP, up to 256 MB. HostForge keeps save files as they are, so fix the co-op host's character before you upload.
